Time to get started!

I have been putting off getting into diet mode to compete this year. I have lots of reasons but we all know they are all BULL**IT! I'm puttin this out there for some additional accountability!

I was very upset with my last outing at the Mid Atlantic in 2007, but happy with my 2006 Mid Atlantic showing. I'm 47 years old and LOVE training, training hard is the easy part for me. I let life get in the way and my diet at night suffers. I train with Joe weekly but my mental attitude needs to change to get BACK in competetion mode. So here goes, today is the day. I will check in with Joe on a weekly basis and post my stats for all to see, the good and hopfully not so much bad!!

Thanks Joe for sending out that email!!

Wish me luck!

Hi Robin,

I'd like to do a show before the Mid Atlantic, I think the Delaware show is about 20 weeks out. Starting strong now would give me a good shot at that show...

Thanks!

Good to see your all back in the game again this year, I started my diet three weeks ago, I hear you Rob, It's tough getting back in the swing of things. I'm definately doing Joe's show this year, It was probably one of the most well run ones I have ever been to. I am cleaning up my diet now and just focussing on that one show. I figure I will lose the weight very slowly and hopefully come in a couple of pounds lighter then last year. So anthony? Good to hear your coming back, what show are you going to do?

OK HERE GOES!!

I have a hand held device to measure BF like Joe has. I weighed myself this morning and the scale said 218! Bodyfat measured 20%! (Those are not typos!)

Well, cant get any worse than that!

Those are some ugly numbers.....but gotta start somewhere.hmm

Anybody got any ideas on what they do to get to bed after dinner without eating stupid??

I eat perfect all day long up till dinner, it's the after dinner time that seams to be the worst/hardest. Just looking for some new ways to change my old thinkin....

Did good last night thinkin about those ugly numbers I posted!! LOL!!

Can you space out your meals so that your last one is later in the evening?

If you are looking for a "treat" have you ever had Beverly Ultra Size mixed like a pudding or nuked as a cake/brownie?  It is really good!

You go Rob....
but you know what, you may think you need to get started but it never ended!!
You know you trained hard and you have reaped the benefits even if the handheld doesn't give you the "thumbs up".

I don't trust those things anyway.

Only advice I can say is for the night hunger is PROTEIN.

Shakes, chickens, fish, beef, venison, any animal that you find tastey put right here.
Have some veggies along with it, or low carb fruit.
Wash it down with three scoops of Xtend in 32 oz of water.

I think that late night hunger is usually due to day time deprivation. So make sure you are getting all you need during the day, even though mentally you are stronger then...it can nip you, later on when the brain starts falling asleep.

get your fiber, veggies in. They fill in the gaps.

BUT if you MUST eat more at night, go out for a walk or something. I don't know if you have a dog; I do. I must take him out at night 3 times. He just likes to go for walks.

I eat more at night too but I also workout at night so I think it helps to offset the intake.

As for the MidAtlantic, I will definitely be spectating at a minimum (hopefully I can get involved with something else in that show too) but definitely not competing. I will have a brand new baby to take care of, so this year is off for me. Look for me in 2009.

Spacing your last meal later is good or just grab a your favorite protien bar.Try baking something with protien powder. The only thing that works for me is forcing myself to go to sleep.I can dream about junkfood all night.hungry.gif   Chris,i will be doing the Mid Atlantic.Competing instead of judging this time.So lets all get shredded and make this the best Mid Atlantic yet!

Rob -

You can do this - you have done it before and you will do it again!! I am one of Joe's clients that lives in the Chicago area so I am the out of area guy, but I certainly am here for support if you need it!!

At night, I have my last meal at 9:00 pm, and am in bed at 10:00 pm, but all is crazy now, as we just had our third child a few weeks ago and now have three ages 4 and under! Yep - keeps you busy!

I am taking this year off and I have "threatened" Joe that I may fly out to do his show next year in 2009 - I have never met a more professional, supportive guy.

It is time to get it done Rob - we are here for you, now go make it happen!!

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the kind words!! Your right, it's time to get it done!

So here is the latest stats: weighed myself this morning, 209 lbs & 16.9% BF on the hand held!

Damn, what a difference a week can make. Most likely just water but i'll take it!!

Thanks everyone for the night time eating ideas. They were all great! I just gotta get my head on the pillow by 9pm even if I'm not tired. I found this week not matter what I will fall asleep if I do this.

Looking forward to next weeks numbers!

Hey Joe, I like the new coverpage on the web site and best of all the over 40 article in there. LOL! biggrin

Quick question does anyone use dextrose after their workout, if so what source do you use it from can you recomend a product. Presently I use whole food, but wanted to check the dextrse option out.

Hey Chris,

I use NOW dextrose. You can get it in gigantic fertilizer bags for cheap. I used it for last year's show and I still am using the same bag today.

No baby yet but future mom is officially on maternity leave.

I think it will be here soon...we're trying to be patient.

Also, NOW has the smaller bags of dextrose if you just want to try it out. You don't have to get the super huge economy supersized sugar-bag although it really is a huge bargain.

My favorite online store is vitaglo.com, followed by ccnc.

I personally know the owner at vitaglo and they really have good prices.

So Rob how's your progress going?

I've little to no progress last week since the flu got me. I lost like five pounds. I hope I have enough time to put it back on before baby comes. I know I will lose like ten pounds when that happens.

Hi everybody,

Thanks for asking about me. Weight change is actually up a pound! I'm getting a little frustrated cause I had some surgery around my mid section this year and it's healing VERY, VERY slowly. The doc said it would be healed in time for the April show. I went and saw her last week and she said I am a SLOW HEALER!! She also said there is a good chance I could be ready for the Mid Atlantic, but to be honest, I'm so frustrated with this and some other stuff that I'm not sure my heart is in it this year.....

I don't know, we'll see. Thanks for asking everyone....

I am sorry to hear about that rob, Question? Has the doctor given you any reason for the slow healing? Although you take in alot of protein, have her check you pre-albumin levels, it's essential for healing, also make sure you are taking in plenty of vit. C will also aide in the healing process. Most of the wound care cases I receive usually heal slowly due to a defficiency in their pre albumin levels.

Don't let this get you down, just heal up before comencing with the type of dieting we have to do for a show. Your health is the most important thing at this moment, I am positive if you give yourself time, you will more then likely be able to prepare for a show in AUG. or Sept. Good Luck

Thanks again for the info Dwayne, I appreciate it. Well good luck with the baby, it is the greatest experience. Don't worry about the training, I got ready for Joe's show last year when my daught was just born. It was a good outlet, trust me you'll need one.. But good luck with everything.

Chris

Rob, hope you feel better. FitMom, you look great since I saw you last in the midatlantic showing.

I am gearing up to do the Delaware show. I'm all jizzed up for it and I know when I step on stage it'll be the best show I did yet. Im proud of the improvements I made in the last few months, even Joe sees it. I was thinking of competing as a light heavyweight, but don't think I can since I put on a little more mass than I expected-thats a good thing! Anyway, I hope all of you the best in your competitive adventures!

Hi Rob!! Hoping to see you onstage again this year so heal up faster!!

I'll be working/volunteering the DE & Joe's Aug shows so I hope to see some of you guys....

As for a pre-bed meal, try an egg white/cottage cheese pancake......mix about 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 2-3 egg whites, cinnamon, 1 packet splenda & maybe a touch of baking powder so it'll puff, whizz it in the blender & cook in a pan....I like SF syrup or Walden Farms jams on top....yummy!
