RE: Battle for the Belt - 2012 - Get your freak on!!

Quads 10/14/11
Squat – 2 warms, 195/5, 235/3, 275/2, 295/1, 310/1, 330/1, 350/5
Hack – 3 warm, 240/8, 250/8, 8
Walk DB – warm, 80/10, 85/10, 90/10
Leg Ext – 250/12, 255/12, 260/12
Single Calf – 200/20, 20, 20, 20, 20
Weight 171 ½
AWESOME workout – 350 for 5 on Squats – a new PR big time!  So squats were good.  Hack good and solid – good range of motion.  Walking DB solid – a bit easier than last time.  Calf – good as well.  So very happy with the workout.  Legs already starting to hurt a bit  - love that!

Chest / Tri – 10/17/11
Bench – warm, 135/5, 160/3, 190/2, 200/1, 215/1, 230/1, 240/1
Chest Dips – 4 x 10 x 35
Slight In DB – 3 x fail – 85
ss Slight In DB Fly – 3 x fail – 60
Tri Extension – 210/10, 10, 10
Lying DB Ext – 35/12, 40/12, 12
1 Arm Under – 60/12, 70/12
Weight 173
OK – so not my best workout ever.  Bench –felt strong throughout and then busted on the last set – was going for 3 but only got out one solid one.  So a bit disappointed – OK – quite a bit disappointed – but it is what it is.  Chest dips good.  In DB and Flys were really good – very strong.  Tri Extension good – with the exception of slamming one of my fingers which hurt like a son of a gun.  Got in some abs.  Weight is up – so not happy about that – but still in an acceptable range.

Back / Ham 10/18/11
Dead – warm, 210/5, 255/3, 295/2, 315/1, 335/1, 355/1, 380/1
T Bar – 90/8, 125/8, 170/8, 180/8, 190/8

ss Rope Pulldown – 120/12, 140/12, 150/12
Glut Ham – 4 x 10
Leg Curl – 90/12, 100/12
Lower Abs
Good workout.  Deads good.  Was hoping to get 3 for 380 but only got 1.  A bit disappointed – but still happy (a bit) as 380 is a new PR.  T Bar – good.  Lat pulldown – good – was able to up just a bit.  Upped 1 Arm DGB Row.  Rope Pulldowns good.  Glute and leg Curls good as well.
Overall a productive workout.

Shoulder / Bi - 10/19/11
Military – 1 warm, 95/5, 110/3, 130/2, 140/1, 150/1, 160/1, 170/2
Front Raise – 60/10, 90/10, 100/10, 10
Side Raise – up/down – 25/5, 30/5, 30/5
DB Shrug – 2 warm, 110/12, 12, 12
In DB Curl – 2 warm, 45/6, 6, 6
Rope Curl – 110/10, 140/10, 150/10
ss Con Curl – 30/12, 35/12, 12
20 minutes cardio.
I am getting OLD.  Good overall workout though.  No real uptick in any of the weights.  Military was good but needed 3 to break even to move the weight up – so FAIL.  But ok.  Everything else was good.  Side Raise – as always – killed me – like that.

So coming up next is a deload cycle – which I used to hate – but now have come to appreciate the rest.

So have done a full regiment of Juggernaut and after this deload go back to the 10s.  So like adding that into the scheme and although I had limited weight increases think as a whole it a very helpful scheme.  Excited to see how it will affect me as I go back to the higher rep – lower weight scheme.

Good workout.  Nothing too exciting but was able to get through it pretty well. Military was a deload and was pretty solid.  So really haven’t upped the weights on anything during this round – a bit disappointed – but it is what it is and the workouts were challenging so that is cool.

Great workout.  I AM getting old – took a few working sets – but got warmed up enough to do some great ATG on the squats.  Love that.  Leg press good as was the Bar Lunge – was able to up the weight a bit.  Leg Ext good as well.  Donkey - upped to 490.  Overall – very good workout.

Good overall workout.  A bit disappointed in the In DB – couldn’t get the 85’s at all the 80’s on the 2nd set was a real struggle to get going.  Fly good.  Pressdown was great as was lying bar curl.
Overall feeling like my weight progress has slowed significantly.  Pushing through things – but just feel like I’ve hit a bit of a plateau

Good workout.  Creaky a bit – but good.  Inner quad still very sore from Squats so that wasn’t helping too much today.  But got them done.  Felt slow through the whole workout.  Otherwise things were good – nothing fantastic – but good solid effort.  Feeling sore all over – usually do the first week of a new routines – love it – but also – very annoying at the same time – HA.  Looking forward to taking a day or two off around Thanksgiving – I think my body need a little bit of a rest.  Weight is SLOWLY moving down

Good workout this  morning.  Pretty solid.  Military good – think I may need to lower the weight as my range of motion is a little lacking.  Side laterals – good – upped a bit.  Rear DB Raise good.  BB shrug – good – upped it.  Seated Alt Curl – good.  1 arm Preacher – love these.  Was able to up the weight so very happy.  Got 20 minutes of cardio in as well.  Overall a really solid workout.

When you say Military, do you mean seated barbell press? what's your grip on that? wide or narrow?

Do you bounce your deads or do you "dead" lift your deads?

I ask because your 1RM deads (and thusly) your repping deads will increase if you train your deads if you "dead" lift them off the floor. Bouncing eliminates the hard part--the starting strength.

If you don't bounce your deads...then you don't need the above tid bit. If you do bounce'em, then if you stop you will soon see your deload deads be in the 400's or at least near to.

Just do a set of 5 once a week and add 5-10 pounds each time. Worked wonders for my deadlift all the way up to 500!

Dwayne,

I start them off the rack (just makes it easier to add the plates. But I don't bounce them (or at least I try not to). A solid / controlled landing on the floor and then a smooth (or as much as possible) lift. No "bouncing"

Good workout.  FINALLY was able to get a reasonable max set on Military.  So able to up next round of weight – not by much –but I’ll take what I can.  Made some solid little gains here and there.  So overall pretty happy.  Additionally weight is down just a bit.  Wanting to get in the 167 range so I can enjoy the holidays a bit without  worrying.

Good workout – not great.  Working on 3 hours sleep – so glad I made it in at all.  It is a deload week so bench is a bit low – but good solid form.  Use deloads to try to fully concentrate on form etc.  Solid numbers on the rest – didn’t move it up much – except for In DB – but good workout.

I don't think you need to deload your bench....just throwing it out there. What do you think? What if you moved up your bench without the deload week...and possibly skipped the 10's part of the cycle? I don't know...tweak it a little.

Deads and Squats are looking good.

Good workout – not great.  Tired as anything this morning and just dragging.   Think that taking next thurs and fri off will do me good to get my energy up a bit.  Hate missing workouts – but a mini – planned time off I think will be beneficial.  So just a deload week – so nothing crazy.  Start a new cycle on Thursday

Dwayne,
Hey thanks for viewing my routines - appreciate it. Yeah - you may be right - however I do like the deload as it gives me a bit of a break and my joints - I think really benefit from it. What is the reasoning behind skipping the 10's? Very curious about that.

Thanks regarding the Deads and Squats - love em!! It is taking me a few sets to settle into a good range of motion - my body is just getting older - HA

Hope all is well with you
